Itron is seeking a customer‑centric, collaborative, and technically astute Pre‑Sales Engineer to support high‑impact sales opportunities across the Utilities & Energy sector. This role partners authentically with Sales, Product Management, Services, and ecosystem partners to bring Itron’s technology platform to life through compelling demonstrations, integrated lab environments, and clear, credible technical storytelling. The Pre‑Sales Engineer plays an accountable role in building customer confidence, accelerating informed decision‑making, and enabling scalable, repeatable success across regulated and competitive utility markets.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, deliver, and continuously improve inclusive, high‑impact product demonstrations that showcase Itron’s full solution portfolio—including AMI, Distributed Intelligence (DI), MDMS, Grid Planning, and IntelliFLEX—clearly connecting technical capabilities to customer outcomes and business value.
  • Lead customer‑focused, lab‑based evaluations that validate integrated solutions, foster trust, and support complex, high‑priority sales pursuits in regulated utility environments.
  • Document and maintain demo workflows, lab configurations, and partner integration blueprints to ensure accountable, repeatable, and scalable execution for field and partner teams.
  • Build, manage, and evolve virtual lab and evaluation environments that enable agile experimentation, solution proof‑pointing, and rapid response to customer needs.
  • Drive technical integration with partner technologies, creating reusable and validated solution environments that strengthen and scale the “Itron Inside” ecosystem.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally and authentically with Product Management and Services to ensure demonstrations reflect product roadmaps, deployment realities, and customer priorities.
  • Support proposal and RFP development by contributing clear technical narratives, solution architectures, and partner storylines, particularly where technical depth extends beyond Deal Desk or Loopio content.
  • Create internal tools, scripts, videos, and enablement assets that improve access to consistent, high‑quality demonstration materials for sales, services, and partner teams.
  • Maintain and continuously improve a centralized Itron Demo Channel, promoting knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement across internal and partner communities.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience with AMI systems, utility data platforms, and enterprise‑scale system integration within regulated utility environments.
  • Strong technical storytelling, presentation, and demonstration delivery skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, customer‑centric value propositions.
  • Hands‑on experience building and managing virtual lab environments and leading structured solution evaluations.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and accountably across cross‑functional teams and with external technology partners.
  • Experience contributing to regulated utility RFPs, technical proposals, and solution evaluations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical sales engineering, solution engineering, product management, or similar customer‑facing technical roles.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Familiarity with Itron’s technology portfolio, including IntelliFLEX, Grid Edge Intelligence, and MDMS solutions.
  • Experience using demo orchestration platforms, video creation tools, and digital enablement technologies.
  • Exposure to utility standards bodies, meter schools, or industry standards, such as SWEMA, NC Meter School, DLMS‑COSEM, or ANSI.
  • Background working within or alongside utility, energy, or infrastructure organizations, with a strong emphasis on safety, compliance, and innovation.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% to support customer engagements, demonstrations, and evaluations.
