Job Description:
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer/Naval Architect at Vatn, you will play a crucial role in the development and optimization of our AUV's mechanical systems. You will collaborate closely with our multidisciplinary team of engineers to design and iterate on various components, ensuring their functionality, reliability, and manufacturability. Your expertise and attention to detail will contribute directly to the success of our underwater technology.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the mechanical design and development of complex components, systems, and assemblies from concept to production.
- Perform engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, fluid flow, and tolerance studies.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, software, and manufacturing to deliver high-quality products.
- Develop detailed CAD models, drawings, and BOMs using tools such as SolidWorks.
- Oversee prototyping, testing, validation, and failure analysis to ensure product performance and reliability.
- Create detailed design documentation including GD&T, stack-ups, and assembly drawings.
- Contribute to prototype and first article build support leveraging hands-on problem solving skills.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and designers.
- Manage and prioritize multiple engineering projects under tight deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field. (Master's or PhD preferred).
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience (3+ years with Master’s or PhD).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and experience with 3D modeling, assembly, and detailing.
- Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including materials, mechanics, and manufacturing processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve design challenges.
- Experience designing and building composite parts is a plus.
- Familiarity with design analysis tools and techniques (e.g., FEA, CFD) is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on precision, quality, and innovation.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment with shifting priorities.
