Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Electrical Engineer / Computer Engineer with experience in electronic system design, schematic capture, and PCB layout to join our fast-paced and innovative autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) startup.

As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing electrical systems and printed circuit boards (PCBs) for our cutting-edge AUV technology.

Your expertise will contribute to the advancement of our underwater control and navigation capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Electronic Systems Design: Work with & alongside the Electrical Engineering team and all other engineering departments to design & implement all things electronic on our present and future products.
  • PCB design: schematic capture, and complete the layout of high-quality PCBs, considering factors such as signal integrity, power distribution, thermal management, and manufacturability.
  • Component Selection: Research, evaluate, and select appropriate electronic components, including microcontrollers, sensors, connectors, and power management devices, ensuring they meet performance, reliability, and environmental requirements.
  • Harness design and fabrication: Develop wiring diagrams that can be used for in-house as well as external fabrication.
  • System Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers and mechanical engineers, to integrate electrical systems seamlessly into the overall AUV architecture.
  • Testing and Validation: Design and execute rigorous testing plans to validate the functionality, performance, and reliability of the electrical systems, firmware, and PCBs internally developed and externally procured. Identify and resolve any issues or anomalies that arise during testing.
  • Documentation: Create detailed documentation, including specifications, interface documents, test procedures, and user manuals, to ensure efficient and effective system maintenance, troubleshooting, and future development.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest advancements in relevant tools, technologies, and practices. Identify opportunities to enhance system performance, reduce cost, and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, mechanical engineers, and project managers, to ensure successful project execution. Communicate technical concepts and ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Manufacturing: Assist with the Engineering to Manufacturing handoff to help transition R&D efforts into real product.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience in electrical engineering or computer engineering roles, specifically focusing on electrical system design & PCBs. Experience in the Marine Industry and/or Robotics Industry is highly desirable.
  • Hardware Skills: Solid understanding of analog and digital circuit basics as well as AC / DC power electronics. Experience with energy storage systems (such as Lithium-Ion Battery Packs) and both low & high voltage DC systems (12V to 800VDC) is a plus.
  • Firmware and Software Skills: Experience in embedded firmware development using programming languages such as C/C++ on Microchip dsPIC & STM STM32 platforms. Experience with digital communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CANbus, Ethernet, etc.
  • PCB Design Skills: Proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer) and familiarity with PCB fabrication / assembly processes. Knowledge of signal integrity analysis and simulation tools (e.g., SPICE).
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and troubleshoot hardware and firmware issues. Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Collaboration: Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment and engage with external partners and suppliers.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic startup environment with changing priorities. Self-motivated with a passion for innovation and learning.
