Senior Mechanical Engineer
VEIR
WHY VEIR?
VEIR is enabling a new generation of compact, efficient, high-power, and long-distance power delivery solutions, solving bottlenecks that exist across the entire electricity value chain, from generation through to data center server racks. VEIR's low voltage superconducting solutions are enabling new power delivery architectures in the world’s largest data centers and our higher voltage solutions are poised to revolutionize the development of electricity transmission and distribution lines. VEIR is preparing for rapid growth as we seek to solve critical challenges facing data center developers, electricity generation developers, and utilities around the world.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a subject matter expert in mechanical, thermal, and structural design for superconducting system components.
- Own and lead the design, development, and testing of key components of the terminations for low-voltage and medium-voltage superconducting systems, from concept through to fabrication.
- Conduct detailed mechanical and structural analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess design and reliability, accounting for thermal, mechanical, and electrical interactions.
- Define mechanical requirements and oversee qualification testing for system components, managing both in-house and external resources.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support system deployment, ensuring the integration of cryogenic thermal management systems.
- Review design calculations, drawings, and submittals from junior engineers, mentoring and guiding them in their development.
- Interface with vendors and manufacturers to maintain timelines and quality standards for component fabrication.
Skills You Have
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong foundation in mechanical, structural, & thermal analysis.
- End-to-end experience across the product development life cycle: from concept development, thru preliminary & detailed design, and into production.
- Skilled in mechanical design via CAD, first-order structural & thermal calculations, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software for detailed analysis.
- Familiar with industry standards like ASME 31.3 and/or BPVC, with experience designing pressure vessels or similar components.
- Experience creating engineering drawings for external fabrication.
- Skilled in coding with MATLAB, Python, or similar languages is a plus.
- A continuous improvement mindset to innovate and optimize system designs.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration, vendor management, and team mentoring.
- Willingness to travel for short durations during product deployment phases.
Who You Are
- You bring a solid background in mechanical engineering, ideally with extensive experience in structural mechanics, thermal analysis, and FEA.
- Known for your precision and your ability to ideate, iterate, and execute complex designs.
- You are an outstanding communicator (written and verbal) across all levels of the organization and can work effectively in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
- You are a highly motivated, self-starter with a positive approach to problem solving
- You are driven by results - you gauge your success in measurable positive impact (not in how much you check off the to do list) and know how to ruthlessly prioritize
- You thrive on effectively managing multiple projects with competing priorities that require making decisions under pressure and working under tight deadlines
- You are highly curious and solutions-oriented, and excel at deconstructing complex problems into manageable components to develop effective solutions
- You are committed to buying into VEIR’s mission and goals, and adopting our core values
VEIR is committed to equal pay for equal work in its compensation practices. The base salary range for this position in the U.S. is $140,000 - $155,000 per year + equity + benefits. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications, job level, supervisory status, and location.
