Note: This role is posted as full-time, but we welcome applications from exceptional fractional candidates aligned with our mission and risk profile.
Our Mission and Vision
At Verdigris, our mission is to sustain and enrich human life through responsive energy intelligence. As AI accelerates global energy demand, we envision a future where Verdigris unlocks data center efficiency, drives carbon-neutral electricity, and enables intelligent energy systems for humanity’s benefit.
About you
You’re a finance leader with sharp modeling instincts and board-ready presence. You’ve helped growth-stage teams navigate complexity, support fundraising, and scale through financial insight. You bring a strategic lens, thrive in ambiguity, and know how to partner with operators to turn vision into execution.
Your Role on the Team
As Head of Finance, you’ll own FP&A and strategic finance, guiding Verdigris’ financial planning, board storytelling, and investor readiness. You’ll partner with our Assistant Controller to build a high-leverage finance function and advise leadership during a pivotal phase of growth. We’re open to full-time or fractional leaders, with a flexible, equity-forward comp structure.
Responsibilities
- Lead Strategic Finance and FP&A. Own the planning cycle, forecasts, and budget vs. actuals. Align financial plans with company strategy and team OKRs.
- Support Fundraising and Board Readiness. Collaborate with the CEO and COO on investor updates, board materials, and long-range planning.
- Build Executive-Level Financial Models. Develop and maintain dynamic models for cash flow, runway, scenario planning, and pricing strategy.
- Partner Across the Business. Engage cross-functionally with product, ops, sales, and engineering to inform decisions with data and financial insight.
- Collaborate in a Dyad Model. Work closely with the Head of Business Operations to guide organizational development and G&A planning.
- Enable Accounting Excellence. Support the Assistant Controller on reporting accuracy, financial operations, and close cadence.
- Support Future Operational Scope. Provide strategic finance input into potential future responsibilities in supply chain and revenue operations.
- Integrate AI and Automation. Champion automation in finance workflows using AI tools, and help define the roadmap for an AI-enabled finance function.
- Uplevel Financial Visibility. Improve internal dashboards, reporting cadence, and communication of key financial metrics across the team.
Required Qualifications
- Mission and Values Alignment. You believe in the power of electricity, software, and AI to enable a cleaner, more human future—and want to build a business that advances this vision with clarity, care, and conviction.
- Builder Mentality. You’ve built from zero: budgets, models, processes, systems. You thrive in ambiguity, move with urgency, and know how to create leverage where none exists yet.
- Strategic Finance and FP&A Depth. You have led or directly contributed to forecasting, board-level reporting, cash planning, and scenario modeling at a high-growth company.
- AI Literacy. You are familiar with general-purpose AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Excel Copilot, Slack AI or Notion AI. You think critically about how AI can automate workflows and improve financial planning, analysis, and communication—without needing to be a technical expert.
- Operational Fluency. You know how to partner across G&A and Business Operations, and can flex into adjacent domains like legal, HR, or systems architecture when needed.
- Tool Stack Proficiency. You’ve worked with modern tools like Ramp, QuickBooks, Google Sheets, Salesforce, and documentation or invoicing platforms.
- Experience Level. 7+ years in finance, with growth-stage or startup experience. Backgrounds in strategic finance, PE/IB, or SaaS operations are welcome.
- Board-Ready Communication. You bring structure and strategic clarity to financial storytelling, and know how to engage executive stakeholders and boards with precision.
- Collaborative, Low-Ego Style. You are accountable, kind, and direct. You uplift others, earn trust quickly, and know that clarity is a form of care.
Demonstrated Expertise
- Financial Planning and Analysis. You’ve owned forecasts, budgets, and monthly reporting, with the ability to translate numbers into actionable insights across functions.
- Strategic Modeling. Skilled in building robust three-statement models, scenario plans, and investment cases to support executive decisions and capital raising.
- Board and Investor Communication. Comfortable preparing materials, presenting financial strategy, and supporting investor diligence and board meetings.
- Business Partnership. Adept at working with product, engineering, operations, and sales to align financial planning with business goals and OKRs.
- G&A Fluency. Familiar with supporting or guiding HR, legal, IT, and business operations through planning and operational scaling.
- Operational Rigor. Proven ability to partner with controllers or accounting leads to ensure accurate financials, clean audits, and transparent reporting.
- AI Fluency in Workflow. Uses tools like ChatGPT, Excel Copilot, or FP&A platforms to automate, analyze, and iterate faster. Brings an automation mindset to how the finance function evolves.
- Change Agility. Comfortable leading through uncertainty and capable of evolving tools, structure, and cadence as the company grows.
Nice to Haves
- Board Exposure. You’ve presented to or worked closely with boards—ideally served on one or more. You understand the distinction between governance and operations, and can support executive and board-level accountability.
- Hardware-Enabled Business Experience. You understand how physical products and software interact in margin models, pricing strategy, and operational complexity.
- International Channel Strategy Awareness. Exposure to distribution partnerships or financial strategy in Japan, Taiwan, or global markets is a plus.
- Experience Supporting Series B (or Similar) Fundraising. You’ve played a role in fundraising with a venture-backed company and can anticipate investor expectations.
- IP Licensing or Partnership Finance. Familiarity with licensing, reseller contracts, or multi-entity financial structures is valuable for future planning.
If you’re excited to help orchestrate electricity for the age of machine intelligence, we’d love to meet you. This role is listed as full-time, but we welcome exceptional fractional candidates who share our mission and are energized by building. In your first 90–180 days, you’ll help lead Verdigris through a fundraising cycle, evolve our board reporting cadence, and operationalize a dynamic financial plan alongside our leadership team. You’ll also play a key role in helping Verdigris transition responsibilities currently supported by our former Head of Finance, who remains with us in a fractional capacity. You’ll work directly with our CEO, Head of Operations, Assistant Controller, and team leads across Product, Sales, and Operations—within a culture that values ownership, clarity, and collaboration.
