What is Verse?

Climate change, policy pressures, and energy market volatility are driving companies across all industries to announce emissions reduction commitments. Despite these commitments, direct renewable energy purchases are currently only accessible to a small handful of the world’s largest companies. Verse was created to solve this problem.

Verse’s mission is to unlock the benefits of clean power for organizations everywhere. Our software platform, Aria, is the first to leverage AI to empower companies to understand, plan, and manage clean power. By enabling customers to save money and reduce their scope 2 emissions at the same time, Verse helps scale and accelerate corporate decarbonization.

The Role

As a Software Engineer focusing on Platform & Infrastructure at Verse, you will support and enhance the foundational systems that power our cloud-native service-oriented architecture. Your expertise will drive the efficiency and scalability of our infrastructure within our GCP environment, ensuring that our development teams can build software effectively and operate reliably. You enjoy working on data pipeline solutions (however big or small) and may collaborate closely with our data engineers.

  • Build and maintain deployment automation, observability, monitoring, and alerting tools

  • Develop, configure, and maintain various data and CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth and reliable data flow and application deployments.

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and scaling to improve system efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

  • Maintain and enhance source control management and operations.

  • Build developer tools (mostly written in Go) and contribute to the adoption of new technologies aimed at improving developer productivity and operational efficiency.

  • Occasionally work on our backend application software closer to the product experience layer when needed

Minimum Qualifications (Who are you?)

  • 4+ years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on cloud infrastructure and operations.

  • Proven expertise in managing and orchestrating container-based deployments and microservices

  • Proficiency using the Go language runtime and ecosystem

  • Strong understanding of system architecture, networking, and security principles.

  • Familiarity with deploying and maintaining applications in the data engineering ecosystem: Hadoop, Spark, Airflow, DBT, Dagster, Presto/Trino, AlloyDB, Postgres, BigTable, Snowflake, Hive, RedShift, S3, GCS, etc.

  • Technical leadership and commitment to participating in code reviews, maintaining technical documentation, and adhering to best software development practices.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a flair for creativity and innovation in software engineering.

Preferred Qualifications (Ideal candidate)

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, ideally in Computer Science or some STEM related field

  • Senior or Staff level software development talent and up

  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Google Cloud Platform and its various services.

  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools and practices (e.g. Terraform, Pulumi, Checkly, etc.)

  • Advanced programming skills in Go and Rust, scripting runtimes (e.g. Python, Bash), and configuration languages (e.g. JSON, YAML)

  • Familiarity with the gRPC + Protocol Buffer ecosystem (we use Buf’s Connect SDK)

  • Extensive experience configuring and deploying various batch and streaming solutions in the data engineering ecosystem described above

  • Experience building multiple CI/CD configurations in frameworks such as CircleCI, Jenkins, Travis

  • Proficiency with multi-application build tools such as Bazel

  • Experience with login services like Auth0 or Clerk for customer organization and user authorization, authentication, and management.
