What’s the role
The Contracts Advisor is responsible for completing commodity contracts, and related documents, for the purchase and sale of natural gas products in Brazil. The Contracts Advisor supports the Sales & Origination team by drafting and negotiating commodity contracts, amendments, non-disclosure agreements, natural gas transportation agreements, reviews and drafts transaction confirmations, as well as completing other tasks during the negotiation phase until the signing of the contract.
Also, the role will support the natural trading and business development activities of Shell Energy Americas in Brazil and is part of the Global Contracts organization within the Shell Trading & Supply Commercial Operations organization.
What you’ll be doing
As Contracts Advisor, you will be responsible for:
Provide commercially focused advice and complete contract negotiation that is in line with Shell Trading & Supply policies and guidelines. The Contracts Advisor must possess commercial acumen and is responsible for the management of the contract process from the initial pre-deal commercial advice to the subsequent drafting, analysis, negotiation, internal authorization, and dispatch of execution documents
Identify risks associated with deviations to Shell Energy’s standard contract terms, obtain requisite input from internal stakeholders, such as Credit, Finance, Tax, Legal, Regulatory and Compliance and review and negotiate other contracts related to Shell Energy's natural gas marketing and trading activities. The Contracts Advisor is expected to possess a comprehensive knowledge of natural gas market in Brazil and be able to overcome obstacles that may arise during the contract negotiation process.
Work in close collaboration during the contract negotiation phase with the Sales & Origination team, as well as other internal stakeholders like Legal, Finance, Credit, and others, attending several meetings in Portuguese and English. The Contracts Advisor ensures that all approvals and waivers for concessions given during the negotiation process are obtained prior to contract signature/execution. The Contracts Team maintains applicable contract records in accordance with Shell record retention polices and external regulatory requirements.
Provide support to Sr. Contracts Advisors during contract negotiation phase with structured deals related to gas and power agreements.
Identify and suggest updates/ improvements to written processes and procedure documents, in English, and partners with the Business and other Contracts Advisors in the development of new templates, as the Business needs require.
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in the Brazil on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
A minimum of 3 (three) years of working experience in drafting, analyzing, and negotiating commodity purchase/sale contracts. Preference will be given to those with experience in drafting and negotiating contracts that support the natural gas marketing/trading in Brazil.
A degree in Law, Engineering, Business, Administration, Economics, or equivalent practical experience working with commodity contracts.
Prior experience in the energy marketing and trading industry is required.
Fluency in English and Portuguese (written and oral) is required. The ability to communicate effectively in English on a daily basis is an indispensable requirement for the position. Fluency in Spanish (written and oral) is a plus but not required.
Strong commercial acumen required and the ability to provide excellent support to the Sales and Origination Team by drafting and negotiating commodity contracts that preserve value for Shell, minimize risk and maintain compliance with Shell policies.
Ability to thoroughly explain contractual terms and Shell’s position to customers and internal stakeholders, in Portuguese and in English
Excellent written and oral communication skills (Portuguese and English). Proven interpersonal skills, teamwork, strong reading comprehension and excellent analytical ability
Demonstrated strong attention to detail and ability to recognize issues and involve the appropriate internal stakeholders to overcome obstacles
Ability to prioritize and manage a heavy workload, meet deadlines with a sense of urgency, while maintaining a positive and professional attitude
Demonstrated mature judgment and adherence to company and regulatory guidelines. Ability to be self-motivated and capable of working autonomously
