What’s the role
The Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer is a position that has technical and leadership responsibilities. You will nurture the SMDS Culture of Lead with Courage, Make it Happen and Make it Better that will drive the site to Best in Class performance as the World’s Leading Gas-to-Liquids Specialties facility.
You will be accountable to provide technical assurance and rotating equipment expertise, support and solutions in the life cycle management of Shell MDS rotating equipment and turbo machineries. This includes assuring sound maintenance programs, condition based-monitoring, troubleshooting, problem solving, failure analysis, providing input to plant improvement activities, projects and plant changes to achieve high rotating equipment reliability and availability to meet organization HSE requirements and plant production targets within approved budget and resources.
You will also be responsible to support the leadership and capability development of the site in the areas of rotating equipment and reliability to meet the plant’s business objectives. You will execute all Rotating Equipment team activities effectively and efficiently, ensuring continuous learning and improvements are implemented to support the delivery of the organization’s yearly goals.
What you’ll be doing
You will report to the Rotating Equipment Manager. You will be an individual contributor with significant collaboration and coaching support roles.
- Manage healthy interface within department, ensure alignment, sufficient quality assurance and resource support to meet target.
- Effectively execute rotating equipment and turbo-machinery assurance activities in accordance to HSSE standards.
- Ensure compliance with and adherence to Government regulations, company standards, procedures and processes.
- Provide Rotating Equipment technical assurance and expertise to Shell MDS asset owners on challenges faced on rotating equipment and turbo-machineries, including design specifications for projects, plant changes and turnarounds. Provide timely feedback and recommend appropriate mitigating actions on critical rotating equipment conditions and maintenance activities which have direct impact on people safety, process safety and plant production.
- Lead and provide technical expertise in detailing the engineering design, calculations, specifications and sound documentation for Rotating Equipment related projects & plant changes. This includes providing technical specifications for purchase requisitions of spare parts, new equipment, technical evaluation of vendor proposals, liaison with construction contractor, mobilization of vendor representatives and documentation updates.
- Provide technical assurance for rotating equipment and turbo-machineries preventive and corrective maintenance programs per Asset Management System processes and site assurance procedures & standards, in particular ensuring HEMP and Safety Critical Activities are performed in accordance to specific performance standards to deliver safe and reliable operations of equipment. This includes providing prioritization of activities delivered by the Site maintenance and assurance teams.
- Review maintenance program effectiveness (preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, condition based etc.) and recommend technical solutions by analyzing plant equipment history in related to benchmarking of industry best practices in order to safeguard equipment reliability and availability.
- Review and analyze actual operating conditions versus design limit to ensure rotating equipment integrity is maintained and optimize equipment performance.
- Develop mid to long term strategy in managing rotating equipment reliability, continuously improving the maintenance plans and managing obsolescence of parts proactively to ensure business continuity and reliability. This includes providing technical expertise to Shell MDS stakeholders that require inter-discipline input in the areas of concept development, site survey, cost estimation, defining options, conducting technical evaluations, review performance and so on.
- Prepare/facilitate/participate in Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) study and review for all rotating equipment in SMDS Plant using the S-RCM approach and implement AMS process.
- Review, prepare and implement Spare Parts planning, review Spare Parts Min-Max analysis for all rotating equipment/turbo machinery in SMDS Plant.
- Prepare, manage and deliver planned major overhauls and inspection for every PTA campaign.
- Conduct assurance activities and ensure compliance to approved operating procedures and standards for rotating equipment and turbo-machineries. This includes supporting the ESP Integrated Technical Proactive Monitoring exercise.
- Review, analyze and verify rotating equipment new installation, existing/as-built design modifications, engineering and maintenance enhancement requirement for equipment that is not meeting the required availability in accordance with applicable codes and standards for plant improvement e.g. MoC, Plant Change and Projects.
- Ensure implementation of defect elimination and improvement of rotating equipment through structured Root Cause Failure Analysis and Bad Actor Management, e.g. Manage Threats & Opportunities to sustain equipment availability and reliability at optimum costs and to meet plant availability and production performance targets.
- Drive, develop and implement of rotating equipment related procedures, instructions and standards through audits and interventions (FAIR, HSSE-CF, ESP, etc.) in order to improve operational, maintenance, work quality, avoiding rework in adherence to company safety and engineering requirements.
- Identify, evaluate, recommend and implement leading technologies and tools to drive step change improvement in rotating equipment and turbo-machinery management, monitoring and performance. This includes providing technical coaching and training required to fully utilize and successfully deploy new technologies.
- Provide inputs in the establishment of the maintenance outsourcing strategy for SMDS rotating equipment major overhauls and major inspection in collaboration with SMDS Contracting and Procurement group by formulation and establishing contract strategy (contracting plan, contract evaluations, negotiation exercise)
- Assist Rotating Equipment Manager to determine and develop work scope for all rotating equipment once-off service contract, long-term service contracts, review contractor performance and facilitating contract administration to safeguard plant availability, ensure safety and quality performance, resources optimization and cost optimization.
- Support sound knowledge management and competence building of site personnel in the areas of rotating equipment and turbo-machinery assurance, maintenance and reliability through effective technical coaching, knowledge sharing, sustainable capturing of knowledge into procedures and work instructions, staff onboarding, learning sessions, Causal Learning investigations and so on.
- Keep update with latest industrial best practices, design codes and standards, condition monitoring technologies with regards to rotating equipment. 22. Uphold the Engineering Vision and Purpose, as well as ensure people work in accordance to their pre-defined competence standards.
- Provide support to Leadership and delivery of the Site Governance Element of Goal Zero, People, Reliability, Innovation, Cost, Projects & Turnaround.
- Undertake special assignments or tasks as directed by the Rotating Equipment Manager.
What you bring
We are keen to speak with candidates who have:
- Min. 7 years of relevant Rotating Equipment Engineer experience in Oil & Gas/petrochemical plant industries OR
- Min. 10 years’ experience in mechanical work and maintenance of rotating equipment
- Diploma or higher qualification in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or Material Engineering
