About Work on Climate: WoCl is a leading non-profit focused on mobilizing humanity’s talent to build a regenerative, climate-positive economy. About the team: the Metrics & Data team builds the data infrastructure for Work on Climate, collecting, organizing, and analyzing data about members, community activity, and programs. The team meets weekly on Tuesdays at 9am PST (UTC-8).Role Summary: We’re seeking an experienced, dependable, highly technical volunteer Data Engineering Team Lead to steer the team’s technical direction and coordinate implementation.Time commitment: 10 hours/week consistently for a minimum of 6 months; ability to join weekly meetings and be consistently responsive to teammates.What you will do: lead an all-volunteer data engineering team; manage and coordinate work, motivate volunteers, recruit as needed, and contribute hands-on; guide technical architecture and decisions; champion adoption of new tools and practices (including AI-assisted workflows); and work with the founder to align the team’s direction with the organization’s evolution.What makes a fit: 5+ years professional data engineering experience (team management, project management, coding); experience with several of GCP, Typescript, Python, dbt, Hex, Dagster (or equivalents); AI-native development workflow; plus for ML serving/evaluation or LLM-powered systems; previous experience leading all-volunteer teams preferred.
