The Role

Xos is looking for a talented Senior Resident Mechanical Engineer to join our team at our Byrdstown, TN Manufacturing facility to oversee and manage vehicle and chassis engineering projects. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of engineering designs, installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems.

A successful Senior Resident Mechanical Engineer will possess strong technical expertise, excellent project management skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

*This is an on-site position at our Byrdstown, Tennessee Manufacturing facility*

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate mechanical engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Oversee and be hands-on with the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Perform hands-on tasks on vehicles and additional Xos products as required.
  • Provide technical guidance to technicians and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design and develop mechanical systems, components, and equipment.
  • Analyze data and prepare detailed engineering drawings to specifications.
  • Identify and resolve mechanical issues on-site.
  • Conduct inspections and quality checks to ensure compliance with engineering standards, specifications, and industry best practices.
  • Implement corrective actions to address non-conformities and improve overall system performance.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, project documentation, and progress updates.
  • Maintain accurate records of engineering designs, modifications, test results, and maintenance activities.
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams, including contractors, suppliers, and internal Xos teams.
  • Work with the engineering team (internal and external) to manage fit-up or R&D builds and approve Pilot builds at the body upfitters.
  • Control and schedule parts for R&D fit-ups and execute any necessary reworks.
  • Supervise a small team of engineers and technicians
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. (Master’s degree preferred but not required)
  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering in automotive or manufacturing applications
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and design standards
  • Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA highly preferred) and other relevant engineering tools
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget constraints
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively convey complex technical information
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing project requirements and priorities
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong work ethic, integrity, and a commitment to delivering high quality results.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be comfortable lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 50lbs. and using their hands and arms to operate tools and equipment.

Work Environment
This job generally operates in a plant environment as well as a professional office environment and engineering laboratory facilities. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of conditions at job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud depending on the equipment being used.
