Overview
The Systems Technical Review Board Lead is responsible for the end-to-end coordination, seeing to closure, and process assurance of the company’s Systems Problem Reporting. It coordinates reports from engineering as well as from flight test. The Technical Review Board coordinates the resolution of findings among and within the systems organizations:
- Mechanical Systems Equipment and Furnishing,
- Avionics and Human Factors,
- Power Storage and Distribution and
- Integrated Propulsion and Flight Control Systems.
This role ensures that all problem reports—whether safety-related, functional, documentary, process-related, or otherwise—are accurately captured, efficiently triaged, and advanced through the appropriate governance channels.
Responsibilities
Oversee Problem Report Intake & Triage
- Reviews of newly submitted problem reports for completeness, clarity, and proper categorization (e.g., potential safety, functional, documentary, process, other)
- Coordination with report originators to obtain missing information or correct deficiencies prior to CRB review.
- Ensuring each PR meets the entry-criteria and contains sufficient detail to support classification and disposition discussions.
Chair Technical Review Board (TRB)
- Prepare and publish daily TRB agendas to ensure the timely progression of PRs through classification, adjudication, and closure.
- Identify and invite appropriate stakeholders (engineering, quality, manufacturing, safety, etc.) based on the content and ownership of each PR.
- Serve as the administrative focal for TRB meetings, including agenda management, action tracking, and follow-up communications.
PR Workflow & Dashboard Management
- Standardize the TRB process across systems organizations
- Ensure data integrity across all PR tools and systems.
- Develop and maintain process metrics:
- Maintain the PR dashboard and supporting Kanban boards to provide accurate, real-time visibility into the PR lifecycle and bottlenecks.
- Track PR aging, workload distribution, task assignments, and status changes to support program-level reporting and decision-making.
- Continuous improvement and optimization of TRB process
PR Closure Assurance
- Validate that proposed fixes or change activities have been executed in accordance with applicable processes and quality requirements.
- Confirm that closure artifacts (e.g., updated documentation, design changes, inspection results, test evidence) are correctly attached, reviewed, and approved.
- Ensure that all required verification steps, process reviews, and sign-offs have been completed prior to formal PR closure.
Required
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related technical discipline required; Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering preferred
- 10+ years of aviation or defense industry experience
- Experience coordinating formal engineering, quality, or configuration management processes in an aerospace or regulated engineering environment (preferred).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage high volumes of data, multiple stakeholders, and parallel workflows.
- Clear, concise communication and a high level of professionalism in cross-functional settings.
- Proficiency with dashboards, Kanban systems, and structured problem-reporting or change-control tools.
- Experience with Jira and Confluence is desirable.
- Detail-oriented mindset with strong adherence to process discipline and configuration-controlled workflows.
Desired
- Proven experience in coordinating high-impact activities with engineers of varying experience levels, from first-time participants to those who have completed multiple certification programs.
- Previous experience defining system controls, crew indications, and flight manual procedures
- OEM/Whole-aircraft FAA certification project experience
- Experience and involvement with industry groups to develop consensus standards
- Experience using Atlassian tools including Jira, Confluence, and Crucible
- Working knowledge of avionics, electrical systems, and related equipment, technical standard orders, and minimum performance standards
Additional Information
Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $185,700 - $247,700 /year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
