Overview
Joby Aviation is seeking a motivated intern to support the technical program management (TPM) team this summer! Projects will be primarily focus on the Airframe structures but may grow to support other areas including propulsion. As a TPM intern, you will work closely with the design, manufacturing, supply chain, and testing teams to identify and solve critical path bottlenecks to help accelerate development projects. A successful candidate will be comfortable understanding technical discussions, developing strategic plans, and communicating with a broad array of stakeholders. This role is an opportunity to own real hardware development initiatives from design through implementation to production and make a meaningful impact on the certification of Joby’s S4 aircraft.
- Start Date: May 2026 (flexible)
- Duration:12+ weeks (Summer 2026, with potential extension into Fall)
- Primary Location: On-site, Santa Cruz (Full-time, 40 hours per week)
- Travel: Day-tripsto operations facility in Marina, CA
- Eligibility: rising juniors and aboveare strongly preferred
- International Students: If applying with CPT authorization, ensure you can legally work 40 hours per week on-site before applying
Responsibilities
- Assist the technical program management team in driving the organization towards type-certification
- Facilitate the design-improvement cycle between design, manufacturing, quality, and testing teams
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules to ensure timely development, release, and manufacturing implementation of post-CDR design modifications
- Coordinate with supply chain and manufacturing teams toexpeditecritical path priorities and communicate their downstream program implications
- Manage design change initiatives to ensure cost, timing, and quality meet program needs.
- Automate data-entry and standardwork flows to accelerate development and collaboration at all levels of the organization.
Required
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, Business, or a related field
Heading into junior or senior year of undergraduate degree or above
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment
Effective communication skills, both written and executive presentation
Deep familiarity with spreadsheets and similar tools (like SmartSheet) to efficiently manage and communicate complex program plans with ability to develop automations
Desired
- Familiar with Urban Air Mobility, eVTOL sector, or renewable energy technologies
- Direct project experience with hardware development, manufacturing, or new product introduction
- Familiarity with tools like Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet
Relocation Assistance: This position does not offer relocation assistance. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
Additional Information
The pay range for undergraduate interns, which includes junior to senior level students, is $22-$31/hour. The pay range for graduate interns with a Bachelor's, Master's, and/or Ph.D. degree in progress or completed is $5,550-$7,800/month. Individual pay is determined by internship role, department, experience, job-related skills, and level of education.
