Company Overview
Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.
Overview
In this role, you'll contribute across a range of M&S disciplines: from developing and validating dynamic models of aircraft systems, to executing tests in our flight simulator environment, to building tools and pipelines that accelerate analysis workflows. You'll work alongside engineers performing post-test data reduction, model correlation with experimental and flight test data, and simulation infrastructure development. A can-do attitude is a must for this fast-paced environment in which every team member relies on each other to perform to their highest potential.
Responsibilities
• Develop, validate, and maintain dynamic models for different aircraft systems and components
• Support execution and analysis of tests in a flight simulator environment
• Build and improve data processing and analysis pipelines using Python
• Correlate simulation predictions with experimental or flight test data and identify sources of model discrepancy
• Support experimental test activities as needed
• Contribute to documentation, test procedures, and technical reports
Required
• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree (Junior or Senior standing minimum) or graduate degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field by the start of the internship for Summer 2026.
• Proficiency in Python; familiarity with C++ is a plus
• Foundational understanding of dynamics or control systems
• Experience with numerical methods, simulation tools, or computational
• Understanding of data fitting, regression, or system identification methods
• Ability to work effectively both independently and in cross-functional teams
• Available ~3 months (flexible)
Desired
• Familiarity with Simulink
• Experience correlating and validating flight dynamics models using experimental data
• Software development experience beyond scripting (version control, testing, pipeline design)
• Graduate student in relevant field
Additional Information
The pay range for undergraduate interns, which includes freshman to senior level students, is $22.00 - $31.00/hour. The pay range for graduate interns with a Bachelor, Master, and/or Ph.D. degree is $5,550-$7,800/month.
