Company Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a senior operational leader to oversee our Quality Control team. Reporting to the Head of Quality, you will architect, coordinate, and execute all aspects of quality control across all manufacturing facilities. The Senior Quality Control Leader will drive inspection strategy, operational execution, regulatory compliance, and organizational development as we scale aircraft production.

This leader will lead and develop a high-performing organization of inspection managers, supervisors, and inspectors across the entire manufacturing footprint. You will own the integrity of our inspector qualification and certification programs, drive disciplined problem-solving to accelerate inspection throughput, and ensure unyielding compliance with internal standards and FAA regulations.

The ideal candidate possesses a proven track record of operational leadership in complex manufacturing or aviation environments. This role requires close collaboration across Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance, Production,
Manufacturing and Design teams to ensure seamless operational execution. The Joby Aviation team operates in a fast-paced, highly rewarding environment driven by high standards and precise execution. We are seeking a dedicated leader to build and sustain a world-class quality culture as we scale production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Quality Control team to manage all aspects of inspection while ensuring compliance with internal and FAA regulations.
  • Build scalable organizational structures, operating rhythms, and inspection systems to support increasing production volume and manufacturing maturity.
  • Direct containment activities and support Material Review Board (MRB) actions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Design, and Program Management to support production priorities.
  • Partner with Quality Engineering to ensure all technical requirements and quality processes are executed consistently and effectively on the floor.
  • Optimize inspection throughput and floor process discipline without compromising quality standards.
  • Advise on design and change reviews to evaluate product inspectability and conformance to requirements.
  • Manage quality control metrics using data tools to track and report inspection performance and trends.
  • Support product failure investigations, ensuring robust root-cause analysis and the implementation of systemic corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that support production readiness and commercial scale.
  • Responsible for performing job duties in a manner consistent with established Joby Policies and Procedures.

Required

  • Minimum 10 years of leadership experience in a Quality Management, QC Leadership, or operational leadership role.
  • Experience leading quality operations in military aviation, commercial aerospace, or similarly regulated high-reliability environments.
  • Proven success in a senior leadership capacity, leading large, multi-site, or highly complex operational organizations.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical or electrical systems and standard inspection processes (including in-process and dimensional inspection).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to maintain technical standards and collaborate under production timelines.

Desired

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology, aviation management, or a related operational field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Six Sigma Green Belt / Black Belt or Lean Manufacturing certification.
  • Familiarity with the AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) process.
  • Proven knowledge of core quality tools and root-cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, 8D, Fishbone).
  • Working knowledge of AS9100, ISO9001, or equivalent Quality Management Systems
