The Chef Ann Foundation (CAF) seeks a thoughtful, dynamic leader with policy and advocacy experience to become CAF’s Senior Coordinator of Policy and Advocacy. This position will support the organization’s policy and advocacy work to advance CAF’s mission, ensuring that school food professionals have the resources, funding and support they need to provide fresh, healthy, delicious, cook-from-scratch meals that support the health of children and our planet.

We ensure that school food professionals have the resources, funding and support they need to provide cook-from-scratch meals that support the health of children and our planet. To date, we’ve reached over 14,100 schools and over 3.4 million children in all 50 states.
Job Description
The Senior Coordinator of Policy and Advocacy supports the implementation of the vision and strategy for CAF’s school food policy and advocacy agenda. This position interfaces with federal, state, and local stakeholders, as well as other nonprofit and community-based organizations, that are advocating for more fresh, scratch-cooked school meals. This role will focus on supporting federal and state advocacy efforts as well as engaging with CAF coalition partners, school food operators, and contractors.
The Senior Coordinator of Policy and Advocacy is responsible for supporting the Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy in stewarding the policy process, formulating and implementing CAF’s policy agenda, building relationships with mission-aligned federal and state policymakers and advocates, and monitoring and evaluating how CAF’s policy and advocacy work advances the organization’s mission.
The Senior Coordinator of Policy and Advocacy will report to the Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design and implementation of a federal and state policy agenda to advance CAF’s priorities
- Work closely with contractors to execute CAF’s policy agenda utilizing appropriate strategies and tactics
- Analyze and track legislation, draft policy materials, and prepare and deliver policy presentations
- Create and support policy content creation and distribution in coordination with CAF’s marketing team, including action alerts, talking points, issues briefs, policy reports, op-eds, social posts, and website content
- Support relationship management of key elected and appointed officials, agency decision makers, and community stakeholders by providing clear, fact-based analysis and resources
- Represent CAF in various federal and state coalitions and work in partnership with other mission-aligned organizations
- Consult with subject matter experts, including school food operators, and facilitate their voices being centered by decision makers at the federal, state, and local level
- Coordinate and implement effective integrated advocacy initiatives, involving a combination of policy, communication, public education, and community engagement strategies
- Work collaboratively with CAF employees and CAF partners to advance policy initiatives
- Assist in educating CAF stakeholders, including CAF team members, about policy and advocacy and the legislative process
- Provide administrative support in preparing for and scheduling policy-related meetings, including legislative visits
Position Requirements
- Understanding of the legislative process, political strategic planning, and the ability to build respectful relationships across the political spectrum
- Exemplary analytical, research, writing, and oral advocacy skills, as well as the ability to articulate complex issues and communicate them tactfully and effectively to a variety of audiences
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain allies and work collaboratively
- Passion and knowledge of child nutrition policy, school food, and food systems
- Ambitious, creative, and results-oriented with a desire to learn, pitch in, and anticipate new projects
- Ability to develop and disseminate materials regarding policy developments to policy partners, policymakers, and the public
- Experience analyzing and interpreting legislative and regulatory language
- Willingness to travel throughout the country as needed
- Strong proficiency in G Suite platforms, especially on Mac OS. Experience preferred in Salesforce, Zoom, Adobe, and Canva
- Ability to work proficiently as a member of a remote organization

Compensation
Compensation ranges between $52,000 - $66,00 per year and will be commensurate with the candidate’s previous experience and credentials. The Chef Ann Foundation is a great place to work and provides its staff with a competitive benefits package, including: health, pharmacy, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, group life insurance, voluntary 403(b) retirement plan with up to a 5% match with vesting, a generous paid time off program, and professional development opportunities. We are a fully-remote organization whose headquarters are located in Boulder, CO, with team members spread across the US. This position is remote and can be based anywhere in the U.S.
