  • Analyze equipment performance, conduct tests, and evaluate results.
  • Select components based on specifications, reliability, and performance.
  • Specify electrical infrastructure, ensuring compliance with NEC and LBNL standards.
  • Procure electronic equipment racks, adhering to NEC, NRTL, and seismic regulations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for electrical and electronic systems per ALS, LBNL, and industry standards.
  • Use CAD tools to complete documentation.
  • Coordinate and purchase hardware for ALS projects, ensuring UL listing and quality standards.
  • Manage project costs and schedules using project management tools.
  • Apply engineering principles to develop new methods and solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, providing guidance to personnel.
  • Communicate progress and document work in online repositories and meetings.
  • Support the design of PCBs, electronic chassis, and wire harnessing, ensuring compliance with constraints.
  • Collaborate with vendors for PCB fabrication and component manufacturing.
  • Coordinate with on-site trades for electronics and cabling installation.
  • Assist in designing and installing structured cabling systems.
  • Test and troubleshoot electronic systems in bench and field environments.
  • Generate and manage build and test documentation.
  • Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resources with cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate with procurement for purchasing parts and equipment.
  • Maintain qualifications (e.g., Qualified Electrical Worker) and adhere to electrical safety standards (LOTO, NFPA 70E).
  • Follow safety protocols and use PPE, clearly communicating project and safety details.

Additional Responsibilities as Needed:

  • Supervise exempt and non-exempt personnel in project coordination as needed.
  • Support non-ALS-U projects at LBNL.
  • Mentor and train entry-level engineering associates.
  • Use specialized electronic test equipment (e.g., VNAs, TDRs, OTDRs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power meters, HiPot testers).
